Whats up with Johnson brand bilge pump?

My boat came with a "rule" 500 gph pump that died. I replaced it with a "johnson" 600 gph pump. The rule would shoot a stream of water 2ft out the side of the boat when it came on. The johnson shoots about 3in.. Any ideas?? the hose is not stopped up.

All I have ever used is Rule and Mayfair nevr had a problem with either one, actually pretty impressed with the Mayfair, I have one as my recirculate pump on my livewell adn have run it for weeks on a timer and nevr had a probelm yet.
