I have this 1978 55hp evinrude I bought last week, and I had some problems with it running at idle after taking for a run. So today I put in new plugs and carb kit in each carb. I checked all fuel lines, they are tight. But when I run the engine at high speeds in neutral, there is an arc between the flywheel and the starter pole(it is a blue spark). I don't know why?
It also hestitated every 3 seconds or so like there was not enough gas, or, maybe cause of the arcing? So I played with the idle adjustment and now it only hesitates every 10 seconds, but I see no arcing when it is idling at low speeds(in neutral).

Hello.
DO NOT RUN YOUR ENGINE AT HIGH RPM WITHOUT A LOAD.
It is by far the best way to ruin it.
Sounds to me that you may have a bad wire or coils.
In other words, the highest time to buy a manual. First and foremost check for the stupid little things like a loose or damaged wire.Especially the grounding wires and connections, which in my opinion are the main suspects.
Very often it turns out to be one of the wires that go to the plugs.
When you go through the check and elimination process make sure you start with the cheap problems so you don't buy unnessecary expensive parts without solving the problem.
Good luck.
