My husband and I made the bad decision to buy a 2003 Bayliner Ciera 265, from a broker, without getting it surveyed first. We basically walked into this boat blind. When we test drove it, it ran fine as they always do.. Here's a little info about it. It has around 100 hours on the motor and it sat in brackish water for a couple of years before it was drystacked. The anods were eaten off of the areas near the motor and there was a bit of corrosion on the outboard, etc. I think the boats main issue is the lack of use that it received over it's life. It did receive regular maintenance though.
On our first run, after it was purchased, the boat didn't have power half way through the throttle. If it was in WOT, it had half the power. So we took it to a marine mechanic who rebuilt the carborator, changed the bellows, fixed the exterior of the outboard and repainted the bottom of the boat. When we took it on the water after it was fixed, it ran well, although the RPMs didn't go to where the engine said they should be, maybe a guage issue, maybe something else, idk. (I'm not sure the exact RPM info.) Anyway, we took her out several more times after all this with no issues until yesterday. On the way to the boat ramp, our trailer had a blow out. The husband called from the side of the road, I went and bought a new tire, we were back en route within 45 minutes. We get to the landing. I back the trailer in the water, husband tries to start the boat and nothing but click, click. He had unplugged all the batteries prior to this boating trip so they shouldn't have been dead. So, he fiddles with the wires and the engine starts up. He gets the boat into the water, my parents, my baby and I all board the boat. As we go to take off, the no power issue is back. We're WOT with half the power. Husband puts it in neutral, revs the boat, and it revs fine. Back in drive, no power. Oh, and what's even better, there was a strong smell of gasoline in the cabin area. So, after 5 minutes on the water, I get the truck and we get the boat out of the water and head home.
So, what the freak is going on? I called the mechanic and he said to bring it by next week. But, what do any of you have any ideas of what might be going on?
This freakin sucks.
