I'm looking at a 1970s, manual shift, 50hp Johnson for kind of a rebuild project to put on my boat. Trouble is the motor I have is a electric shift, so I have to change the controls. Finding a control quadrant isn't a problem. But, the motor I'm looking at building is missing the wiring harness that goes in the boat. I'm sure I can build one, except for the plug that fastens to the side of the motor. Looks like it's all female connectors, since the motor side is male pins. I've looked around on E-bay. But, they seem few and far between. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. Can anyone tell me the correct terminology for the plug and where I might find one? Thanks.

You can buy a seperate OMC key switch wire harness with a red plug connector to the motor. Or simply buy a set of controls with the key switch built in and the motor wire harness with a red plug connector. The contols will include the wire harness that plugs into the motor. On Ebay search OMC, johnson, evinrude controls should find plenty from the early 70's to early 90's with the right connector.

Call Budget Boats in Chesapeake Va. They have a LOT of stuff there old and new. Basically a used boat dealer and junk yard so they have lots of engines laying around that might help. 757-543-7595
