This might be a silly question, but can I take the steering console and linkage out of my 75 crestliner and simply place a tiller on the transom?

It would create a ton of room for fishing and hunting.

Thanks,
mike

What kinda motor do you have?
They make kits to go both ways.

clarify you question, are you wanting to change your motor into a tiller motor, or are you wanting to put an already tiller motor on your boat?

Re: wheel to tiller

I would most likely purchase an already tiller motor for the boat. I have a merc500 and linkage that gave me issues all year. I would probably try to sell that and apply to the money to a newer used 40 - 50 hp.

sure no problem, do you presently have a splash well, that would be the only complication. it getting in the way, if you remove the steering console, be carefull, about the structural integrity of the boat.

Re: wheel to tiller

I do have a splashwell. So I would have to look at that. The column is just built off the side and screwed into the ply wood deck. Not much structural integrity there. I would probably put some kind of bench/storage well there to add structure as well as match the left side of the boat.

Thanks for the help.
