When do you change your fuel filter?

I have always changed my fuel filter in the fall. However with E10 gas would it make more sense to change it after one or two tankfuls in the spring?
The idea would be to get any water out from phase seperation over the winter. I only run the engine about 50 hrs a season so changing the filter twice a year seems a waste.

Larry, I do not think it makes any difference, the water separator will still protect your fuel system. You should not have any more or less phase seperation in the spring, vice the fall.

The only issue is if the water seperator will rust out over the winter. it also could rust out over the summer as well

The problem i see with NEW gas is the filter no longer really has water in it


With REAL gas whan you poored out the filter into a glass jar there would be a water phase at the bottom


NOW when i check it the water stays susspened in the fuel becasue of the e-10 content

I changed it and checked for water last July when I first got the boat and again this June after several tankfulls. Neither time was any water visible but there was some "grit" the first time. My four winns has a plastic rotomolded tank which may? limit consensation.
