this is actually my neighbors boat and he's having a problem..

When he goes into high spped the motor just dies...

what could be causing this to happen?

someone told him that it could be a carb problem..

What can be done to fix this?

thanks..

Try rebuilding the fuel pump first then the Carbs. Fuel pump kit is probably around ten bucks. Carb kits around 20 each. Fuel pump is easy, carbs will need a service manual to do the link and sync.

You might want to check to make sure the bulb on the fuel line is hard. Check for spark on all 3 cylinders. I had a similar problem and it turned out to be no spark on 2 of the cylinders and as soon as I applied any throttle it would die. Will it go into a fast idle in neutral and is the problem only when the motor is in gear?

Rule out the easy / cheap stuff first. I have seen a leaky fuel line cause that issue. Make sure that the bulb is staying hard when the engines runs. If it more than a few years old, replace it. Dont be in a hurry to tear apart your carbs.
