When is it safe to place a four stroke outboard on its side?

Some of them have a sign that indicates which side is OK with being placed on its side. Some....do not.

What happens if we take our chances? Then wind up placing it on the wrong side? Because the original owner removed the sticker......

What motor you have makes a difference as to what's safe.

Some... never on the side.

Some... never any position other than upright if there is fuel in the carb. You can USUALLY get away with more if there is no fuel.

Find your engine's manual. Most are online.
