I have to get into the corner of the transom on my 18' Grumman I/O to do some corrosion repair. I'm going to have to cut out a bunch of foamed in place foam to get there.

What should I replace it with that won't saturate with water?

Blue or Pink Foam board from a building supply store will work and will not saturate with water. Do not use the foam in a can.....

Welcome to iboats.

What are you going to use to repair the corrosion??

Air get saturated.......

Ayuh,... But it's Easily drained, then pumped....;)

With the prevailing winds, I'd say mostly Canadian air up here....

If you want some hand inserted foam block, use high density closed cell polyethylene. Very tough stuff and will not suck up water like EPS (expanded polyethylene styrene) the white foam pellety stuff. It is used for personal floatation devices. Not cheap, but the Polyethylene blocks can be cut, shaped and bonded into any shape you desire.

smart ***** comment, get's a response.

100% humidity is fully saturated air.

Unfortunately the air under the floors will be replaced with water and the boat will sink.

all in fun though, I did find a material when I searched FAQs that I'll look into.
I also found that you shouldn't use the window sealer stuff as another poster added.

...and thanks for the welcome. I found this site using a google search for aluminum transom repairs.

is this closed cell polyehtylene you are talking about anything like the peanut packaging stuff that is used to protect stuff during shipping ? I hope so , it would be great to put this stuff to some good use as opposed to trying to stuff it into the trash can and sending it off to a landfill....cheap too !
