Where can I get the model/serial number for my 1989 150hp Force motor? I need the number to order parts, and the numbers are worn off the tag on the outside of the motor so much that I can't read them. I've also looked on all the paperwork and receipts I have for the motor, and it's not on any of them either.

Please help! Thanks!

Wade

Thanks Jake!

I need an impeller, water pump housing, and any gasket/seals necessary to seal up the lower unit again (I've never done this before....that's why I don't know what seals).

Wade

Re: Where are MODEL & SERIAL NUMBERS?

Hi Wade, its frustrating as @%*# isn't it?
I've looked all over my Force to find any place that they may have stamped the number, but can't find anything.

There are a few paragraphs on identification in the Clymer's manual, page 295. It only tells of the transom bracket id plate.

It also says that on pre 1993 motors, "product identification is based primarily on MODEL number."

" It is imperative that all parts are ordered from a parts catalog that matches the engine's Model year revision code."

My only other suggestion would be to take it to a dealer or repair shop, tell them you need help in identifying the motor, and you are willing to pay them for their time.

Your model number should start withe the numbers "150".
Followed by either one digit or two letters. Then another letter, and then two or three numbers.

Examples:
1505F43
150DRK834

No kidding!

The closest Mercury dealer is 150 miles away, so I'm gonna call them this morning and see what they have to say. Thanks for looking on your own stuff for me roscoe! I really appreciate it!

I'm getting tired of looking at my boat just sitting in my driveway and the lower unit propped up on the garage wall. That's for sure!

I cant help you find the numbers sorry....but it you do find them. buy a set of letter and number punchs and put it on that thing some where. and that is good advice for anyone because if you motor ever gets stolen and painted over. and it happens then you can still ID it. or if the numbers get wore off of the sticker. you still have them somewhere.

just my $.02

Re: Where are MODEL & SERIAL NUMBERS?

Well, I had emailed Mercury for you, and they replied.

AND I just received a personal phone call from Mercury!!!!!!!!!!

They said there may be a small metal id plate on the powerhead itself. But I don't have one on mine.

Also, in addition to the model number format listed in my previous post, he said it could have a serial number starting with "0e" or "0g", followed by six digits. This seems to be a Mercury style serial number, but my book says they didn't use this until later years.

He also said that almost all parts on the 89-91 150hp motors were interchangable. The 91-95 used a different electrical and ignition system.

He suggested having a dealer order the parts and then doing a close inspection of them before installation.
