Trying to buy a older(90-98?) small(4-6hp) yamaha and i just don't see alot out there in my area(seattle, Wa) and when i do come across one they want a arm and a leg for it.
My question is did'nt Yamaha make alot of these little motors for the u.s. market?

They're good motors and folks tend to hang onto them, and they don't depreciate much. I had a Yamaha 4HP that I paid $600 for, kept it 5 years and sold it for $600. Maybe you can find one on E-Bay. Good Luck!

Yamaha did make outboards for other companies like Mariner in that year range your looking for. I agree and would try out Ebay.

no one is going to sell something that's easy to store and will come in handy some day, for a few hundred dollars, when it would cost twice that to replace it.

One market, however, would be among the small sailboat crowd; someone may have upsized to a larger kicker finding the 4-6 is too small. put up signs at the yacht houses.

Your best bet is to get one attached to a jon boat rig, then sell the boat and trailer. Usually the cost of the whole rig is in the motor anyway. But I think you'll motly find mercs and gamefishers and newer OMC's rather than Yam's or Honda's.
