Where can I find two of these?

I have found ONE of these from Bass Pro Shops. However, if I remember correctly, the top 2 bolts, and the bottom 2 bolts on an engine are at different widths. Therefore, I'd need two different sizes.

I am re-doing the interior of my boat, and would like to put these on my transom while I have the bolts out.

Does anyone have a cheap source for billet aluminum who could make these?

Anyone know where I can find them, other then bass pro?

Thanks!

Why not have an aluminum supplier fix ya up with some 2 or 3 inch X 1/4"-3/8" or thicker flat bar?... Probably a bunch cheaper and definately stronger than those cast pieces....

You could sand down flat bar and polish it if you were going for "looks"...

Shawn: You can get them from Land-and-Sea for 29.99 each or do what I did - get two pieces of 3/8" x 2" Alum. bar stock drill your holes, shape them how you want - if paint wipe with vinegar, spray zinc chromate, then your favorite color. Not counting paint I have abt $10/12 in mine.

:)

Re: Where can I find two of these?

Jim,

that sounds reasonable!

I think I will do that. I am sure that someone around here can sell me a few scrap pieces of scrap bar aluminum.

What's the best way to 'shape' the edges, just a bench sander? I could probably use mine, but I'd have to get a belt for metal...I would assume I could use a jigsaw to get the 'rough' shape, and then sand it to my liking.

Oh yea, it's not so much for looks as it is peace of mind. I look at the bolts and just thank that the load needs to be spread out more...

Thanks for the tips guys!

Shawn

Aluminum will sand easily with your wood sand paper for shaping.

Shawn: Got my bar stock from a local boat trailer parts/supplier also alum trailers for boats. You can round ends with jig saw then ease edges with abrasive paper. Should spread load very nicely.

:)

A mill file would be my preferred tool for rounding edges, though emory cloth/sandpaper would work too.

You might try a small machine shop in your area. They always have small pieces of stock laying around and it would only take them a couple minutes on a belt sander to shape them.

Musky,

Good point.

But, when towing your boat or not under power, the weight is on all four holes. I guess just the top would work though...

Shawn

Muskyone: If they were costing a lot of money that may be a valid point abt the bottom but for the few bucks why be cheap - better safe than sorry -

:)
