Been trying to lift my '91 115 off the transom to adjust motor height up and down. Where can I get the screw in attacment that goes in top of motor? can't afford jack plate, can't find this part at merc parts express, its just a little metal screw with loop to attach a hoist. If any newbies are thinking of lifting motors with straps, don't do it. I have almost stripped bolts out of the motor mount.

I had a similar problem, I needed a merc flywheel puller and couldn't find one anywhere. I ended up getting one from ebay, but while i was on there the same seller was selling a lifting eye. The seller's products are the real deal and are still in the original wrapping, untouched.

Good luck-
andy

If you can find a Mercury parts dealer near you they will have it! It's called a "lifting eye" just give them the year and model motor you have so they sell you the correct one...

I had one welded up because I couldn't find a lifting eye. Cost me $30. Well worth it.

fp

Re: Where can I get the engine lift attachment

Does someone know if this lifting eye will work with a 250 hp EFI? I have a motor laying on a pallet right now and am going to need to place it on something so i can work on it. Thanks

If you have a friendly machine shop nearby, they can make you one pretty quickly.

I had one made similar to this image, but in stainless. I'd recommend something in hardened steel, as I stripped the 1/2" course threads on mine trying to pull the flywheel off. Mine was 3" long. I think 2-1/8" is more appropriate.

I've never seen the Mercury lifting eye or puller in person, maybe they are similar.

Not sure if all motors have the same size tapped hole in the flywheel.

Good luck !

Re: Where can I get the engine lift attachment

Here are a few pics of a lifting eye that I modified to also work as a flywheel puller.

I basically drilled out the center hole and then cut threads in it to accept a bolt that is used as the "puller" so to speak for the removal. I had to grind/taper down the end of the bolt to fit into the top depression of the drive shaft which I hadn't done yet as seen in the pics. I couldn't find a bolt long enough that had threads in it on the entire shaft so I also had to lathe cut the shaft down above the threads so it would travel all the way through the hole.
