Where do you get your lower unit oil?

I need to change my lower unit oil so I went out looking. I had an idea of what I needed thanks to a couple members here. Pretty much wanted an 80w-90 quart of oil with marine on it... I was able to get my pump so that is a plus.

Now the fun. I drove around stoped at Advanced Auto Parts, nothing. Went to AutoZone, and nothing again. Went to Meijer where I though for sure they would have something, and nothing again. Then went to O'Reillys and they had it in tubes, but I would have needed 3 or 4 and that would have been close to $25. I don't think it should cost that much!

I only need a quart of the stupid stuff (that is very important!!). Where do you guys get your lower unit oil at? My next stop is Bass Pro, I need to look at seats anyways, it's not far either.

Why not stop at a Johnson-Evinrude dealer and get the right stuff?

WalMart has all the popular boat lubricants--including Mercury and Yamaha. They also carry pumps--if you choose to use one to change the fluid.

I purchase 2 quarts and squeeze one bottle in the bottom plug until I cannot get any more to go in. Then, I'll take the second quart and squeeze it until oil comes out the top vent hole. Replace the top vent screw, and then replace the bottom screw--you're done. Then, I'll empty one quart container into the other--and end up with almost a full quart of lower unit oil for future use.

I have an older outboard, and the nearest dealer to me isn't very close. It's more important to me to at least change it now, and get the right stuff if I need to later down the road.

Thanks for the advice, Bamaman! I actually don't have a Walmart close by. I ended up getting Penzoil stuff at Bass pro shops. I only got one quart because that is what my service manual said I would need... hopefully I got enough. I got the pump to pump it out of the bottle, so I'm oing to try that. Thanks for the tips on how you do it. Very appreciated!

you could have also ordered it online since you apparently live out in the sticks where walmart hasnt even clawed away at people's hopes and dreams yet...
