where is #1 cyl on v-6

i was going to check the timming on my 1990 200gt. i think the top left cyl, should be number 1. is this so. also is it ok to run it a 4500rpm with hose to check the timming.

Top starboard is number 1. It is physically the highest cyl. in the block.
No it is not OK to run it at 4500 on the muffs.
