Re: Where is my alternator?

It uses a rectifier

question from a noob,
answer from a noob.
what’s the difference?

HAHA!

well, Im planning to put a cd player and speakers in the boat, will that be okay? the boat has two batteries BTW. The rectifier looks small and doesnt look like it does much.

Thanks
Andy

Re: Where is my alternator?

It charges off the stator and you should have no problem with the cd player.... remember that the boat plugs are not resistor type so the radio will be picking up every firing pulse.

Battery’s act somewhat as filters; however if you are picking up pulses just put a capacitor in line with all your stereo equipment (should solve most everything)

Re: Where is my alternator?

Unregulated charging systems tend to run higher voltages so the head unit may shut down if voltage goes too high. A Radio Shack 12V regulator (in-line with the stereo) will solve that problem if it becomes an issue.

Re: Where is my alternator?

ignition is powered directly and only from the battery. the stators ONLY job is to charge the battery, of course with help from mr.Rectifier. may just be only outboard able to run without the stator...is that even possible????

if your rectifier is shot, go see your pals at radio shack and ask for a 25 amp full wave bridge rectifier. works great on UN regulated systems, wich is what you got!

Re: Where is my alternator?

The two yellow wires from the stator are your charging wires. The blue, blue/white, red, and red/white wires from your stator power your ignition. They are your low speed and high speed windings. The brown, white and purple wires coming from under the flywheel are from the trigger.

Re: Where is my alternator?

All the rectifier does is convert your alternator's AC output into DC. It's unregulated, so the voltage will vary depending on RPMs. You'll probably want to run a new wire (properly sized) from the battery to a regulator, then to your accessories as opposed to tying in at the controls or under the dash, unless your sure the stock wiring is of sufficient gauge.
