It won't hurt. Another thing you can do is to buy that pink 2" thick styrofoam at a good hardware store, and measure the depth of the area you want to fill Ex: 8" deep, buy 4 pieces to make up 8" epoxy glue them together and then cut them to fit the area. They usually come 8ft. long, and of course, won't rot, or get water logged like some expanion foams will. There is somtimes foam under the gunwales, and above the transom area. Mine does anyway. good luck!

good idea, I'll go with the styro foam stuff, I need something, way too much empty space down there.

In the cabin, under the floor, is there supposed to be anything? Also, can I use that expanding foam in a can to fill up areas or is that prone to water logging?

You can put the foam anywhere you like. Yes, you can use an expanding foam in a can, just make sure you use the one in the blue can. There are two kinds, one is a red can, the other is blue. The blue is ment for outdoor use, and is water proof. And remember, if you use the expanding foam, set up the area so you can have the water flow to the back of the boat, and out the drain hole.
