i have a 1986 125 hp force o/b i took it out for the second time a couple of days ago and i noticed that when i went to put in on the trailer there was gear oil all over the sides of my lower unit. im not sure where its coming from. it appears to be coming out of the bolt holes. should there be washers on those bolts. any help would be much appreciated

Re: where is the oil coming from

Are you sure it is lower unit oil? Probably is gas oil mixture that mixed with water in the motor leg. It is usually most notible when you tilt the motor for trailering. When the motor is at an angle the float in the carbs has trouble staying closed and gas will free flow down the motor and froth up with water. Take a whiff of it. If it smells like gas then it is oil gas mix. Another thing you can do is crack open the drain plug on the lower unit and see if the lower unit oil is white and creamy.
