Where is the Poppet Valve on a 95 Yam 175. The Clymer manual for 90 - 95 2-strokes doesn't seem to even mention it. I plan to replace thermo's soon and would like to do the poppet at the same time.

Also how often are broken bolts an issue when removing the thermostat covers?

scroll thru some of these post topics and look i have asked a few questions relating to this poppit valve. it is on starboard side lower part of exhaust between the heads. please do me a favor. when you pull the valve out there will be a spring and a plastic valve. the plastic valve has a long end and a short end which end goes into the motor. i heard the tapered end but it looks like both ends are tapered make sure you remember this as i have forgot my motor is sucking water but the way the valve is set up it will either way just want to have it in there the right way thanks and just get some gasket paper and a carpenter nife to recut the gasket it was a easy one to cut otherwise you will have to buy a complete gasket set thanks good luck

use wd40 overnight or brake fluid on the bolts and they should come out easily. tighten only clean bolts on clean surfaces and torque them slowly each one a bit at a time. i broke the tstat cover tightening the bolts.

hello
the valve allows excess water to exit the block. if it leaks you wont be able to maintain water pressure to fill the top of the block and low speed overheats will occur. if the bolts are stuck that is whatoxy/acetylene is for. only one surface of the valve is tapered. the gasket is less than 1.50 and is readily avalible by itself. I always clean the pocket with a pick and replace the rubber grommet.
good luck and grease the bolts before reassebly and with proper maintanence they never stick.
