I was applying to my state for a new HIN, to register the project boat I am working on...it didnt have the tag on the transom with the factory HIN...and it came to me with no numbers on the sides of the bow...so there was no way to look up who was the last person to register it...and the previous two owners of the boat didnt have that info either. The police man asigned to this detail wanted to do , due diligence to see if the boat was stolen in its life...he made a call into starcraft asking for the secret HIN # location, but they wouldnt get back to him...

luckily!! he just went ahead and issued me a new HIN # today, and he etched it into the hull...so i can finally go ahead and spend the money for paint.

do any of you starcraft owners know where the factory places the hidden #s

i promise i wont tell anyone!! ha ha ha

the police man was thinking under the rub rail...but i told him it is probably on the hull skin..either the bottom or the sides...all the periferal parts could come off , so i doubt they would be there.

Secret serial number place is a new one on me. Maybe one of the original SC list members know about it. Lots of folks have taken off the peripheral parts and no mention of finding numbers.

well youd only find it by accident or you got the info from starcraft or you went through what i went through to register a boat that had no known previous owner and no serial number tag. most times they list a secret place so if a boat is stolen and the thief removes the identification numbers, they have a way to look up its number still..

maybe they only give that info out to police sources....

I know that when i was given a HIN for a sailboat project boat i made the cops told me to put the number on the transom and a hidden spot on the boat someplace that I could tell him so on the paper work it is shown where the hidden number is...

my secret spot is under the rubber rail molding....so to see that, you have to take off the bow cap and transom corners, pop a few rivets and unscrew the bolt holding the end of the rubber in the rail and then slide the rubber out... to expose the hideen 's.

they supposedly do that on most boats these days..

I think it would be on the hull floor sheet aluminum or on either gunnel sheet..maybe even under the closed bow deck
