I have an 83 17ft Larson sport boat with a 74 Evinrude 115. There is a tack on the dash but the previous owner had cut the connections. Probably during a motor swap. If i want to hook back up with the Evinrude where should I tie in. I belive it would be a 2 or 3 wire connection with one to the coils. Have installed on autos but only had a single coil. would pefer not to experiment. From what I found in the forums + and - no problem. There is a terminal strip on top of the power head and would guess I would tie in there for the signal. Any ideas on which terminal
?
Sparks not always a good thing outside the Cylinder walls... Thanks for any input

Most boat tachs on OBs run off the alternator or the CDI box. Most have a wire from the controls for the tach, another for power, and a ground. Should not use much power from this wire, but put more wires to battery. Aftermarket tachs run from the alternator mostly, before it is changed to DC current. Otherwise there may be a terminal on the CDI (or whatever they call the ignition box) for the tach. I guess chrysler has a special tach and is pricey due to its strange alternator.

Search this site for 'tachometer'.

I/Os use automotive tachs.

My guess from what I can see on the harness is that the wiring from the motor feeds up to the shifter module on the side panel. The shifter has the key and choke controls all in the same unit. From what I can tell there are no connections from the motor harness running up to the dash. There is however a red wire capped off that extends out of the shifter module and is connected to nothing. Is there a voltage I should have if that is the connection I should use?

Thanks

underneath the key there should be a female plug that has three pins, those three are power ground and tach. look for that.

In the wiring harness, there should be a grey wire.
That wire runs to one of the poles of the stator
(alternator) in the motor and is the sensor lead. The other wires that will need to be routed to tach are a +12V off of the ignition switch when it is in "on" position (red wire) and Ground (black wire) Another wire will go from your "anchor" light wire to the bulb for the dash light.

Hope thi

Thanks, I dont remember seeing any other connector externally on the casing. Will check there internals of the controls assembly the one wire that is visible may be part of what I need in the event that the connector was remove. I will check it out. Thanks for getting me in the right direction..
