Where to attach wire to tach gauge

I was replacing the steering cable on my boat with a 93 Yamaha 115 and severed the tach wire to the tach gauge. The power (purple), ground (black) and lights (blue) are still hooked up, but apparently the green wire was disconnected. This is per Seloc manual, saying green coming out of control box is the tach wire. Do I need another black ground from the control box or is the ground it's got good enough?

Not sure where that green wire is in the mass of wires under the helm, but assuming I find it, where does it go on the back of the tach gauge?Researched this for a bit, but couldn't find anything helpful. TIA, Steve

look back at the control box there is a 12" long pigtail coming from there with yellow, black, green, and red wires
when in question frim this pigtail you can install a new wire straight to the tach

Re: Where to attach wire to tach gauge

Thanks for the response - I definitely didn't see/find that pigtail yet. I saw what I thought was the correct light green wire, but will probably look first for severed ends and try to ohm it out to find the right one. Part of my problem is that the tach doesn't have a Send connection that I could tell. Maybe that was pulled off too? After researching for over 30 min myself found this on the electrics/eletronics forum - http://www.downloadingfiles.co.uk/t...structionmanuals/99320 rev 10 Tachometer,.pdf.

Looks like http://ww2.tflx.com/PDF/99320.pdf says that the ground has to come from the control box for Japanese makes like Nissan/Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha, not a common ground. From what I can tell the send connection is not hooked up though, and I just tried two different ground wires, verifying voltage at 12v+ with voltmeter, but apparently that's not recommended.

Re: Where to attach wire to tach gauge

More info if this will help anyone. Looks like my Tach was set up so that the Send post was marked with only an "S" and looked like a ground post, but on the right side of the tach gauge instead of the left. Found the pigtail that ran up under the helm and the green and black wires inside the black jacket/conduit, hooked it up, and it's working fine again. Thanks for the help.
