Hey all,

I'm looking to purchase four Pro Marine pistons for my Mercury 800. I don't need the Pro-V coated ones. I need the 9000 series, specifically the 9015 and the 9030. However, I can't seem to find a really reputable online place to order from. All the sites I find, I try to pull up reviews on, but none exist.

I'm looking at rickracers.com and maxrules.com, but can't seem to find reviews of the sites. I found one site, outboardparts.com, but it seemed too shady.

I'd like to deal with a reputable place that will send me the parts I need. Sadly, neither iboats nor my regular parts supplier offer Pro Marine pistons.

Do you guys have any idea where I should order these from?

Thanks a bunch!

Rick,

I would, but Pro Marine only sells to dealers. They won't sell to the public.

It does appear that they don't sell retail, but they might tell you who their dealers are.......

I donno.....maybe they use super special snake sauce in their pistons but I would check elsewhere too....

It even looks like Wiseco makes Mercury inline pistons....

http://www.wiseco.com/

Unless you're building a race engine with tuned exhaust and planning on turning 10,000 RPM, you might be able consider other choices.....

Rick,

My machinist is pretty strongly against Wiseco. Said they expand too much when heated. Wasn't high on Sierra, either. He said he's never had a problem with Pro Marine, and he's been working on these things for a while. He did say Mercury were fine, though.

Well, you should probably do what your machinist wants.....

I downloaded Pro Marines catalog. It doesn't appear that they are a manufacturer.

It looks like they are more of a distributor. This could mean that their pistons and other engine parts come from the same place as GLM and Sierra and/or other suppliers........ they're NOT manufacturers either.... Wiseco IS a US manufacturer. Sierra, GLM and a host of other parts suppliers import many of their parts from Mexico and China.

He did say Mercury were fine, though.
I wonder where Mercury gets their pistons?

Anyway, If you MUST have "Pro-Marine" pistons, I suggest you give them a call or send them an email and ask them for a dealer list.

Good luck!

Rick,

Thanks for the advice. He said Mercury's pistons are actually made by Nissan. They have a plant in California, according to him.

Do you happen to know a place where I can get Mercury oversize pistons? The places I've been phoning (local guys) say that they can't locate Mercury oversize for that motor.

Thanks for all the help.

Yeah. I don't know where one would get oversized pistons for any outboard engine except where I indicated above.

I don't even think the Merc dealers will even mess with them anymore....They're all about getting you to buy a new one!!

I really like those old inline 6cyl engines!

There is nothing wrong with wiseco's in that motor. They run quieter and have a better ring design which makes for better cylinder seal. Have your machinest add an extra .0015 to the finished bore and they will run great.

Yes, there are some applications where a wiseco is not good but your motor is not one of them.

I am a dealer for Pro if you are interested.
