We have no idea where you are at and what you have access to. Try Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Lowes...

Expensive, unimportant upgrade.

i am in memphis tn. several of the bolt heads of the lower unit have twisted off. they were apparently not stainless. i cannot find the any stainless in the length 7/8". i would say that this is an important upgrade to prevent the hassle of removing broken and corroded bolts the next time i need to change gaskets and seals.

thanks

i'm sure if you look in the phone book, you will find a specialty tool and fastener store. or specialty bolt store.

i tried a local specialty store and they dont have 7/8". i assumed this was an uncommon size for others, but it would be a common size for old evinruders. guess not. i was hoping someone had a reputable and price competitive company or website i could special order things from. i know there a bunch of these old motors still running around.

Re: where to buy stainless screws

if you could find a specialty outlet selling hardware, you would be better off..
many of the big chains buy the chinese craapola hardware and it breaks so easily you would ......well you know what you would do!!

many dont have a radius near the ehad and that stressed area breaks often...

I have gone through that at my company buy cheapo over seas 18-8 hardware, junk junk junk

buy holokrome, Allem, Unbrako, or similar SS

if you can find 316 that would be good, it is one of the best stainless steels for corrosion resistance.

an old boat mechainc -repair shop should have a bunch lying around...

good luck

I get my SS fasteners from McMaster Carr (www.mcmaster.com). They carry just about anything and shipment is fast (but it costs). You can pad your order with SS hooks and tie-downs. They're 1/2 the price of chromed ones available at West Marine!

Well then... Did you try 1"? If you did and they just don't work...
Thread a nut on them and grind them down. Remove the nut to restore the threads.

Use at least grade 5, grade 8 would be better.

Lowes has a good selection of SS hardware, but some of the screws in OMC motors are odd lengths. You may have to get a few at a specialty hardware store, or have someone order them. I have an OMC/BRP dealer close by, so I just get what Lowes doesn't have, at the OB dealer.
