I just picked up a '76 Evinrude 25hp. It has electric start with a 2 prong plug in. Where can I find a cable with switch to run the starter?

you say it has a 2 prong plug, could that possibly be an add on starter with no charging circut, most cable assy, have multi wire for guages and charging circut,if its just 2 wires ,i would think someone simply added a starter, with a wire to and from positive with a switch, usually uou have a yel /red from the switch that operates the starter solonoid,do you have a solonoid on the motor with a large wire to starter, just 2 wires dont make sense to me,try and explain a bit more what you have on the motor regarding electrical, you can go to the brp website and look up your yr and hp to see the elec configument

Re: Where to find a Starter Cable/Switch?

Well, I guess it is possibly an add on starter... But I havn't really looked into it. I plan to open it all up and clean clean clean this weekend.

The connection is very much like the older 2 line gas connectors... But is just 2 good size electrodes where the gas and air nipples would be. It would click on just about the same.

I thought I was looking for a cable with maybe aligator clips (or eyelets) on one end for the battery. A hand box in the middle with a push button and the electrical connector I just described on the other end. Nothing like that from the factory, huh?

I'll have to look closer to see if there is a solenoid in power head or not. I'll post later...

OK, after looking more closely I see it is the multi wire assy shown in the post above. So, what are all these connections for anyhow? The big two are the starter current. So we have four more... Electric choke, charging? What else?

big ones 99% positive to switch, then to starter, smaller choke, and kill wire.
