Where to find Impeller for 1983 90 HP Chrysler

Does anyone know where to find the impeller for this motor? I have had no luck finding one as of yet. Even though the Chrysler engines, at least this one, (it's the only one I've owned), are from my expeirience excellent engines, the motor will be of little use if the impeller on it ever goes. IT's 20 years old, and I know it has not had the impeller replaced for the last 13, since I bought the boat in 1990. Who knows, maybe the impeller will last another 20 years or so, but, I would like to get one in case this one ever goes.

First get yourself a manual (amazon.com), remove the lower unit and it should on the shaft with its own housing. Also do a search, Im sure other folks have asked the same question

I just checked boatingsolutions.com. They list an impeller for a 90-120 Chrysler engine for about $15.

Thanks scotiany, I just ordered an impeller and a seloc manual from them. They were very helpful, and took the time to look up the model number of the engine and check and see if there was impeller available for it, and sure enough there was. I will drop the LU sometime soon, maybe at the end of the season, and check the impeller. Don't want to do it now, since I know if I do I will probably need some other parts, gaskets, etc, and don't want to keep the boat out of the water right now waiting on parts, especially since it's been so long since I have been able to go boating, and the girls love it.

Thanks for all your help,
Matt

We have sold out of the service manual for your engine but should still have a parts catalog that would give you an exploded view of each component and part order numbers. $7.50 includes postage.
Still have many parts in stock for these older engines. For more info email: linda@nu-z.net

Yeah, just buy the impeller and put it on the shelf. Then you can say "you know, I have an impeller for this motor at home, guess I should've put it in. Now we can just buy a new engine, thats easier."

Hey roscoe;

It has a heat sensor on it. If it is pumping water, lots of water, what is the deal? Besides, it is 100 degrees here in Missoury, and as much as I dislike working on engines, I dislike it even more when it is so hot you can fry eggs on the hood of the car! So, I would much prefer to wait until cooler weather here in Missoury, and use the boat while it's hot, which will probably be for the next two months! IF it stops pumping water, or the heat sensor goes off, so does the engine switch. Question: When the heat sensor goes off, is the engine already cooked, or, is it just about to cook, etc?

The sensor will buzz when you are close to 120 degrees F. Is the sensor working?

Take the motor to a reputable Chrysler Marine service around, they will do the job and you can get an estimate before having to turn in your boat for changing the impeller in your motor.

I think the impeller is a consumable such as an oil filter is in your car. It is part of the water pump and will produce the water flow that will cool your motor.

Another consumable should be the thermostat, however, you can test it before throwing it to the garbage.

Another thing about impellers: If you start the motor outside the water, water tank, without "earmuffs" installed and water running, you will cook the impeller within a few seconds. Later down the road, the impeller could fail to produce the flow and volume needed to cool you motor reducing its power and life span.
