New to boating and fiberglassing Ive heard of some type of resin with some type of filler when it sets it has the characteristics of wood, Working on a boat project Replacing 2 stringers, would like to cut top of old stringer, gut out rotten wood, replace with seacrest or some type of fiberglass resin filler any ideas would be appreciated.

Fiberglass filler does not have the strength of that stringer when new. I would recommend you replace the stringer with dry pressure treated dimentional lumber. Chose a 2 by 6 or 8 or whatever the original was, and scribe it to match the hull.

To bed the new stringer to the hull you may use the FG filler, glass and resin. You can make some filler out of chopped fg cloth and poly resin. Alternatively, there is pre-made filler, or you can add FG thickeners to resin, to make your own. I like to wrap the stringer with cloth and resin, after it is bedded with some filler or even several layers of small pieces of cloth, saturated with resin.
