Where to get a good used trailer?

So, I recently purchased a 25' bowrider without a trailer. I will keep my boat in stacked storage so I wasn't really wanting to get a new boat trailer. Are there many options online or otherwise for used? What are some brands you are used to seeing? Thanks.

Craigslist is always a good one around here. I have seen shore lander, ezloader etc.

yep C/L, as far as brand..... generally I couldn't care less.... If it's solidly built, in good condition, and fits the boat that's all that matters

I would look for a galvanized or aluminum trailer. Painted trailers don't fair well over time, especially around salt water. I find craigslist to be ok for smaller trailers but seldom see large trailers for 25 footers. I would check with some of your local boat trailer dealers. they take used trailers in on trade. Alot of trailers like mine, are kinda universal. The components used on them are used on many different brands. I like my Venture trailer but there are many good manufactures out there. Do a google search for boat trailers for sale in your state and it should bring up some dealers as well as for sale by owners.

Good luck, Budd

Re: Where to get a good used trailer?

BTW the last three trailers I bought on C/L came with junk boats on them.... I bought a 26' EZ loader roller for 500, a 30' bunk can't think of the brand off hand for $250, and a 21' shoreline roller for $100... The Seller of the 26'er let me leave the boat with him and the other two boats cost me $47 for one and $30 for the other to dump at the landfill.

The trailers alone would be likely worth around $5000 but I spent under $1000.... I Yanked $1000 worth of parts from the junk boats too.

Smoke, if you find another one for cheap that is for a 26 footer, like 10,000 pound let me know. I would like to have a heavier trailer eventually. Mine is borderline for the weight of the battle wagon.

Some boat dealers will have taken an old trailer in from a trade.

Ask around the stack storage (bulletin board?) as there may be people who are stacking and don't want one any more. Or with the right person, buy one together (Hmmmm new business idea: boat trailer rental for the occasional user...)

Boat junk yards/used boat dealers

Best idea for one that size is the "almost free boat." Around here, the 25' cabin boats are always cheap--they don't last, or a lot of the owners aren't serious boaters I guess. Even if you get a wreck of a trailer, replacing the springs/axles is simple and not too expensive; focus on the frame (not painted, as said before, and see if you can see inside the tubes). You are going to need brakes, so whatever you buy cheap will need brake work anyway.

The more I think about it, sharing one makes good sense. I wish someone would share mine; I hate having it just sit there, paying storage, insurance, taxes, etc. for use about 4x a year.
