Where to purchase OMC ESA Switch?

I had both my ESA and interrupter switch replaced last season on my OMC Cobra. This season my mechanic is saying that the reverse portion of my switch is not working correctly. I called my local Volvo Penta dealer and was flat out told that it is not a part that can be ordered any longer through Volvo. He said I might be able to purchase a switch that would possibly work by calling some sort of electrical supply house. The Volvo dealership also said I might be able to adapt a Mercruiser interrupter to work, but they had not experimented with doing this. I'm really starting to worry about all of this. Any advise is appreciated.

does this guy know how to adjust cobra cables? some do not. when in neutral and you rock the V back and forth does it cut the engine down? a stuck over stroke switch could be canceling the interupt. I service lots of cobras and have replaced very few switches. just sounds like a adjustment or stiff cable issue. have him check it with a ohm meter and show you it is bad. bob

I'm pretty sure he does, though I got the feeling he was in a hurry to complete the job. He did say that he ran out of adjustment on the throttle cable and he ended up putting a small spring on it so that it would return fully to idle. When I took it out for it's first test run Saturday, I noticed that the slightest bump of the throttle would pull it back several 100 RPM's, kinda like the spring was exerting too much pressure.

This guy has no idea what is up if he is putting springs on the throttle return. he has the cable through way off meaning cable is not stroking the same amount both ways. I would start with the control and look for worn out cables and attachment points or a wiped out control box, this happens. is it a OMC control or other? I have never had this happen at all. that spring will cause wear to the throttle shaft in the carb. what year cobra is this?<br />when you adjust the transom cable on a cobra the throttle cable must be unatached so you do not preload the control.

It is indeed an OMC throttle control and my outdrive is a 1990 Model. My engine is an 3.0 and I just replaced it with a brand spanking new long block.

replace it<br />sounds like the tech is lost. you may wish to find someone who understands what the switch does and why the overstroke cams and switch are used on some and not on others. but if the micro switch will work one way it will work the other. its just an on off switch and does not care which side of the "V" triggers it.

I just went out and was checking on another issue and I noticed that the overstroke switch is not even wired. I'll discuss these issues with my mechanic tomorrow and see what he says about it.

The newer ESA modules did not use the overstroke switch as they had a timer circuit instead, if the ESA was replaced the instructions told you to leave the switch in place however the new wiring harness did not connect to it.
