Where to Start? 1962 Johnson RK24L 40hp Electromatic last used in 1988

Today I bought a 1976 MFG Gypsy 15 with a 1962 RK24L 40hp Electromatic outboard. Supposedly, this thing was barn kept for decades, and is VERY clean, but last hull registration is from 1988. I'm assuming the motor hasn't been run since.

I know I should do some maintenance before trying to turn it over. WHERE DO I START? Any advice on steps to reviving a stored outboard would be great.

Immediately, I was thinking a new seal kit for the lower unit, maybe carb rebuild kit, new fluids...?

I would first do a compression test using the recoil starter.---------Then test the shift coils.-------Install 12 volt battery.------Turn key to --"on "------put control in FORWARD , prop should spin clockwise and lock up counterclockwise.----Repeat with reverse.----Pull flywheel and inspect magneto.
