Yes, on a cold start, you'll need to apply a slight bit of throttle. However, you don't want to have the rpms increased to an extremely high point. Remove the hood and watch the throttle butterfly lever(s)..... move the warm up lever untill they move about 1/16" to 1/8" (somewhere in that area). Now, when the engine starts, take notice where you have that warm up lever and move it to a position where the rpms feel right and make a mental note of it. Just takes a little practice.
