I have an oil question... again. I'm back in the middle of a Rotella discussion again. I was saying that the Rotella isn't a true synthetic as I've been told on here. This guy is saying that the Rotella T 5w-40 IS a true synthetic... that it's not like the old stuff. Is this true...is some of the Rotella a true synthetic oil now?

I googled rotella 5w-40 and the very first hit on there took me to rotella's web site that says the 5w-40 is a full synthetic. If we are talking about the same oil, then YES, it is a full synthetic.

From what LD and others had said.... the companies could call certain oils synthetic even if they weren't.... like the Rotella group III hydrocracked (got that from LD) oils. I read what you did today too.... now I'm totally confuggled.

There are two types of synthetics:

1) Highly refined/hydrocracked crude oil
2) Oil made from a chemical reaction

Oils made from a chemical reaction will most likely be purer and can be more taylor made for the application.

Ken

And I still hold to it, as long as the law says they can call it a synthetic, they will. Its still a good oil though.
