Where's the oil going?

I have an '05 Alpha 1 with the remote gear lube monitor. I changed oil when I winterized it, and check fluid level every time I use the boat. Over the last mont or so, I've noticed that the fluid level in the reservoir is a couple ounces low. I have no noticeable leaks, and there is never a film on the water. Everything is dry and oil free as far as I can see.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chad

Re: Where's the oil going?

it is possible to have not properly filled the outdrive and there was an air bubble that finally made it up to the monitor thus lowering the level.

or, you have a leak that is too small to notice. most likely the propshaft seal, drain/vent plug gaskets, or the seal under the waterpump impeller.

If its constantly low, every time you use the boat, it is going somewhere. To be sure, you would have to remove the outdrive, check the hose from the transom to bell and the seal between the bell and outdrive. Then, drain the gearlube and do a pressure/vac test.

If all that passes. they you have to rack it up to magical ferry's stealing gearlube for their procreation or something.

I have noticed something similar on mine. It is down a couple ounces, but after 30 some hours. I am hoping it was just air! But will pressure test mine this fall.

Cheers
