At the helm, within easy reach. Don't mount it near the engine or the gas tank. If there is a fire, it's probably going to be around one of those places and it could get too hot to get to it.

On the console with in easy reach. Does no good on the trailer.

I have three mounted, one on a bulkhead just inside the companionway ( reachable from either the salon or the helm) and two more by the engine compartment ( one on either side ).<br /><br />DD

One under the console on the flybridge,one in the door way in the salon,one next to the stove,two autos' in the hole.Twin gas burners,with 200 gals of gas down there.Ya'll think I need more?

I mounted one next to the drivers seat and one next to the passenger seat. This is on a 21" ski boat.
