Seems to be 2 camps on solid rivet alloys required for repairing aluminum boats. Some say go soft 1100f some say go harder with 27xx alloy. I’ve used both and the 100f alloy is night and day easier. I read that the higher alloy was to be preheated??

Yes, excellent, well written thread that I based my repairs on. It should be a sticky. But I’ve read other opinions elsewhere regarding the alloy that should be used. I do not see dimples on my rivets and I had difficulty with the tougher alloy, namely getting a clean, smile free face, even with the pressure turned down on my air hammer.
