Which type of battery should I go with for my 1990 bayliner? Other than having the radio on for a little bit, I don't use or have a lot of extra things going on. I don't boat that much at night so I don't use my lights that much either. I have a one battery set up.

Either. I have a two battery setup. One marine deep-cycle, the other marine cranking. I use one battery one trip and the other the next. I run a VHF and a combo sonar/GPS. I can't tell any differance between the two performance wise and I get years of use out of them. Your charging system needs to work and you need to take care of your battery. Good luck.

I have had very good service from dual purpose batteries. . . BIG ones.

I agree, for this type of single battery application, dual purpose will suit your means. I am a big fan of Trojan batteries...

Simple – based on what you wrote, you are good to go with a typical starting battery. If you will be spending several hours with the engine shut down and listening to opera’s greatest arias thru a bi-amp’d stereo system, then I would suggest a dual-purpose battery. Otherwise, if you’re just cruising along listening to the radio, your starting battery is just fine. Hint: that’s how it’s done in your car. :)

No trolling motor? Starting battery is fine. If you plan on a trolling motor later. Go directly to a deep cycle. The largest that will fit in you battery holder. A size 27 deep cycle is ideal for a trolling boat
