Which Battery?

I need a starting battery and one to power an electric trolling motor. I know that a regular "car" battery provides more cold cranking power, but won't tolerate the deep cycling the trolling motor will put it through. On the other hand, a deep cycle is more expensive, and does not provide as much starting power. My motor is a 1992 Yamaha 40. Any tips?

------------------
Boat_Boy!

Re: Which Battery?

That's right on all counts. Most folks run a dual battery arangement. One strictly for the engine, and a deep cycle for the TM. But search back a few months ago, and you'll find a post about a battery sold at Sears. The guy claimed plenty of cold-crankin amps, and the ability to run a TM all day. I'm sorry, but I forget the title. But do a post search with "Deep cycle" in the search field. It should pop up .

a 40 hp motor doesnt take much amps to crank. A 150 only draws about 100-120 amps usually. Sears charges too much for their marine batteries. Go to a Sam's Club and get a Stowaway for 49.99. (59.99 at walmart) Its dual purpose and has 850 cranking amps.
