I need a new battery for my 17' Bass Tracker with '83 Evie 50. Any recommendations? Money is an issue, so please keep that in mind . . . thanks.

Jason
I've done a little research. I have a trolling motor, so does that mean I need two batteries? One for cranking and accessories and then another for the TM?

How many CCA's should I have? How much reserve is a good amount?

Sorry such a newby at this . . .

HELP!

Thanks,

Jason
Never worry about appologizing for a question!
CCA's and reserve time are unfortunately directly related to price.
How much time do you spend trolling vs running the motor? That answer will probably determine if you do need more than 1 battery.
Post your answers and I think a few more people will have a few extra ideas. If not try posting this question in the fishing section.
Mike.
Another consideration for 1 vs 2 batteries is depth/fish finders. If you run your TM and depth finder on same battery you *might* get poor readout due to inteference from TM. On my 14' alum boat, I have a rope start so only have 1 battery. I didn't see any inteference but know others with similar setup who did.

BL...
I'll run the TM about 1.5 - 2 hrs. at a time. I'll only run the outboard (unless trolling) about 30-45 min. at a time (at the most).

The depth/fish finder go off the starting battery.

Helpful?

Thanks,

Jason
I would look for a couple of deep cycle batteries in the 650 to 900 range for cranking amps. You can switch them off for starting and auxiliary use. The initial cost will probably be $80 to $120 each. I've had good luck with DieHards, and more recently with the batteries Boat US stocks.
Interesting idea. Once I wear one down with the TM, will it have enough juice left to start the motor?
Or should I switch them after recharging them to lower the "wear and tear" on each?

Jason
Here's an update.

I got a Wal*Mart brand deep cycle (labeled Trolling) 650 CCA with 160 min reserve.

Paid $55 for it, so I thought that wasn't a bad price.

Thanks for all your help, folks. I appreciate the postings.

Fair winds and following seas . . .

Jason
