On a previous post I asked about the Angler 17" CC boats, and had some good responses and suggestions. Unfortunately, in my area the suggestions while excellent boats are out of my price range or just not sold here. (Key West, SeaHunt, Trophy, CapeHorn, Century etc.) I need to stay under 15K. (As ar under as possible)
One boat besides the Angler I'm now looking at is the mako 171 CC. The salesman is pushing the 1801 stating that it's drier and runs better in chopy water. (I will be in the bay by FireIsland on Long island, NY). The bay can get 1-2' chop or more, but I would most likely stay off the water in more than 2'. While the 1801 does probably run better, he went to the point of saying the 171 was really made for flat water! there is about a $4,000 difference in price!
Does anyone have a recent 171 CC? I'm looking at a 90HP motor. How well do they run. Is the salesman right or just being a salesman?
the mako salesman is also pushing (recommending) a 2 stroke optimax motor. (90hp), the angler a 90Hp Yamaha 2 or 4 stroke, my choice.
The Angler 17' CC and the mako 171 CC will be within $1,500 of each other all said and done. (Angler cheaper). The 2007 Angler also supposedly has a new hull designed to cut the water better.
It will be used mainly for fishing in the bay, some cruising mostly 2 poeple sometimes 4 (Cruising only).
I should also mention the Mako dealer is about 30 miles or so from my house, and the Angler dealer 2 miles. Neither accessible to me by water.
Any and all input welcome!
