Wondering what the preference is between these three. I plan to keep the boat in the water at a marina and will use the boat for hanging out on anchor with my wife and 2 or 3 twenty year old daughters and doing some short distance cursing on lake St. Clair.

First is a 99? Regal 242 Express Cruiser for $18,500. Has a Volvo Penta 5.0 engine with VP SX Cobra outdrive with unknown hours, but owner states ?Unfortunately this model does not come with a gauge for hours. We have owned it for the last couple of years and we drove it for less than 10 hrs a year. The previous owner supposedly didn't drive it a lot either and she had said she used it more as a cottage than a boat. I believe she owned the boat for about 7-8 years. Please let me know if you have any other questions.?

Second is a 1994 Crownline 250CR for $12900. Has 5.7/V8 Bravo engine (all the ad says). Includes one season of dockage ($1,500 value).

Third is a 1998 Four Winns Vista 258 for $18k. Owner states Engine Brand: Volvo Penta, Engine(s) Power: 280 HP, Engine Model: 5.7L SFI (SFI is not right per others on this board ? waiting for verification.) Major plus is this has less than 100 hours and was rack stored.

The Regal is under powered.

The other two sound like good deals if they are in good shape. Neither was a bad boat from the factory. The FW appeals to me more.

+1 on the Regal being underpowered.

I'd go with the newer boat. Rack kept and stated hours. Price seems a little high, though.

Four Winns gets my vote. I don't think the Regal would be that underpowered compared to the other two. It's a 305 vs 350, lol. In any case, the 350 is more desirable, and the low hours/slightly larger boat would be good. Asking price is probably a bit high.

Okay...... I am going to sound stupid......... Get a survey on the one you are leaning towards. Spending money on a survey may save your butt.
