I'm looking at new, or newer pontoon boats. I've never owned an outboard, I need help deciding between a Johnson, Yamaha, and Honda. 40-50 hp, 4 stroke. I'm concerned with dependability, getting parts etc...
Any suggestions or comments would be welcome.

Thanks,

The Johnson is EFI and computer controlled.

Don't know about the Yammy and Honda, but I would go for EFI over carbs any day.

Bombardier announced about 1-2 months ago that they are discontinuing their Johnson 4-strokes, but they're just rebadged Suzukis anyways so parts availability shouldn't be a problem.

The Yamaha F50 this year is EFI. The F40 still has carbs, as do the Hondas. JB's point about EFI vs carbs is well taken but for me anyways it's not a make-or-break thing.

You've got 3 good choices to pick from, so I'd also look at the number and quality of dealers for each of them in your area.

IMO if you want to buy a pretty one go mercury...anyway, all are good engines, it comes down to the price you want to pay and the style you like the most...

Dealer support should be the number one factor, in my book.

Buy from one you like and trust.

As an example. We're turning into a Merc. family. And this from a true blue Johnny/Rude guy.

Why? A fantastic dealer.
