Which carbs to use?

I have a '85 1.6 Sea Drive (115hp) and a '88 88spl that I am trying to build into one usable powerplant for my boat. The carbs from the SD are kinda crusty and definately need a rebuild but the carbs from the 88spl are in very good shape. Is there a horsepower difference (or any other benefit) in using the SD carbs over the spl ones? What about the reeds between the two engines? Since the bore, crank, and heads are the same specs between the two, I'm guessing the horsepower difference is in the carbs and possibly reeds.

The carbs should interchange with no problem. The intake and reeds are the same. The 88 carbs probably have smaller throats than the 115 carbs and will significantly limit horsepower. The diameter of the carb throat is cast into the front face flange of the carb. Look for 1 3/16", 1 1/4", 1 5/16" etc. The large that cast number is, the more fuel/air it will flow and the more horsepower it will make.
