I have a 50 horse Mercury outboard that was identified as an 1985 1050525 50 by the serial number that I posted. Crowley's has a tillotson and a Walbro both listed as carburetors for this model and I can't get outside to look at it right now. Does it tell on the carburetors which type they are? Thanks

Most carbs have a numbers and letters stamped on the mounting flange where it contacts the block intake that tells what carbs you have.

Thank You! I found where it says WMA 3 1 and WMA 3 3 on the carbs this morning. I take this to mean they are Walbro type A carbs. I will have to remove the front frame support to get at these carbs and turn the carbs upside down to check the floats and needle valves. I had problems with it flooding out about half the time when I tried to start it at the lake last week and gas was dripping down the carbs when I removed the gas tank hose and cranked enough fuel out to finally get it to start.

Now you have a good start for getting the needed work going. It might be best to replace the inlet needles and seats and check over the floats or replace them while you have them apart. I always mark the carbs befor I take them off so I put them back on where they came from. It dose make a diffrance on some motors as the carbs are diffrent.

Re: Which Carburetor?

Thanks! I need to get a manual for this 50 horse. I have a Seloc manual for my 25 horse but the 50 is a little more complicated. Is it possible to find one that just shows step by step what all I need, or do I have to look through all the different types like in my 25 horse manual?

Re: Which Carburetor?

A factory service manual for your motor can be bought at dealers or buy calling Mercury Marine. Checking on Ebay is another option for one. Seloc manuals usally several motors and all the diffrent systems used for each as you have found out. Mercury did, or dose, have a online manual that I used, but I belive you have to be a dealer nowdays inorder to use it. The factory manuals are for just the motors of a certin year an horsepower, and cover everything in detail about them. They are rather $ compaired to Seloc price, which covers several motors as you have found out.
