which cfm carburetor should i have

Engine is 1997 3.0GSMLKD
I finally purchased a reman holley carb and the guy told me that he had the original one for my boat well i noticed that it is only 300 cfms and im thinking it should be 500cfms. Does anyone know what it should be the volvo penta original part number is 21610333 but for the life of me i cant find out what the holley number is. I have even contacted volvo and they do not know how to cross it over.

Im just curious but why would such a small engine need a 500 cfm carb?

Im just curious why a 4 cylinder needs a 500 CFM carburetor. You would think that that would be too much but im not a carburetor expert im just curious.. Thanks,

Some 3.0 came with 500 cfm carbs others came with 350 cfm. It does seem a bit big for a 3 litre. A 350 would be a tad big. I guess they wanted a low pressure drop at WOT. That 500 cfm is actually the perfect size for a 5.0 litre turning 5000 rpm

It originally comes with a 500 cfm? Wow. You'll get way better throttle response with the 300. No way would I put a 500 cfm on that.

Find an on-line Engine CFM calculator.
Plug in your displacement and typical RPM range.
You'll be surprised at how little CFM is required at the RPM range in which we operate.

you do not mean it... throttle response is great with the great working acclerator pump on the 3.0 GS , lets not try to be smarter than volvo or holley why - the 3.0 GS comes with a holley 2300 series 500 cfm 2bbl. thats it.

Doesn't mean its the right carb. Manufacturers try to save a buck wherever possible and only buying one series of carburetor for different engines is one way. If it runs fine, leave it.
