Okay,

After lots of looking and reading... still need some help.

Got different serial numbers on engine and carb cover

carb: 0B613680
engine plate: 0B730432

Question is... do I need triangle or round coupler?

thanks.

well, this makes sense... 0F000000 and below uses triangle, so I am going to order triangle.

Are you sure it`s a coupler issue?

I haven't done the measurements but I'm pretty sure all drive shafts are the same length. If so, either disk or triangular coupler will work as they are mounted to the outer flywheel bolt pattern rather than the crank...which is dependent on year(single or two piece rear main seal)

...and they're probably all made for the 14" flywheel.

there are 2 triangular couplers old and new (not interchangeable - diff. mounts)
if u sure that's the coupler all you need to do is lift the engine 3 inches and back it up about 3 inches, you'll have enough room to work, nothing to it...

Use the SN from the engine plate you have posted 0B730432 (the one on the carb cover may be a replacement cover).
Take your SN to one of the online Merc parts programs and find the OEM pn for the coupler you need. Then you can use that number to convert to any aftermarket brand you want.

DonS.

Found this quote from you in another posting from 2004...

"The A7 is the older style coupler used on engines with SN 0F000000 and below, while the A5 is used on the newer SN 0F000001 and above. The newer coupler (A5) has a longer tube with grease zirks on it to lube the shaft. The older one did not have that extra tube.
The newer one requires a yoke shaft with 3 orings on it. The third oring is to hold the grease in better and dirt out."

I was under the impression I could use either one? Here is my thinking... arent the triangles the same on both now? and now the A7 is sold with a new yolk, with 3 orings, while the A5 is sold with no yolk (cause it assumes you have 3 oring already)... now, I have purchased a new outdrive and right away noticed and wondered why it came with 3 orings... So I have the new yolk already and should be able to buy A5

One website also says that....

thanks for advice and agreement? I need to buy today...
