Hi,

I've got a 1989 30hp Evinrude with a Evinrude remote control.
My dealer said i can connect a tachometer to the output of my remote control.
As the original Evinrude tachometer is quite expensive here in Germany(about 300 Euro), i asked my dad to build a digital one.
T
herefor we need the output signal.
So i hope anybody can tell me what kind of signal that exactly is.

Thank u very much!

Re: which electronic signal at rpm output?

Normally the tach send signal comes from the rectifier/regulator (on a grey wire). However, I think you just have a rectifier with no regulator on your motor and there is no grey wire.

You can run a tach directly from the alternator winding (normally yellow/grey wire that goes to your regulator). This will be an AC voltage that will vary with motor revs say 5V and higher. Sounds like your dad is an electronics person. He could look at this signal with an oscilloscope.

Teleflex have instructions for their tachs on their web site with some info. This might help. Look at the rectifier yellow leads. One will have a gray stripe on it. You can take the signal from here.

Or, look just below the key switch for a rubber plug on the control box. It'll have three sockets in it. One socket is ground (black wire), one is ignition lead (purple wire supplying 12v DC) and the last is the tach pulse from the rectifier, (gray wire)
