I'm getting ready to repower my '88 Boston Whaler Montauk and am looking at 2 engines. I would be interested in any feedback you might have.

One is an '06 Evinrude E-tec 90 hp. The engine is selling for $4750 but after an adapter harness and labor etc., it would be about $5885 - a guess based on the assumption of using the existing controls from my 88 Johnson that was rebuilt in the mid 90's. I'm not sure this will work and it would increase the cost if I needed to change all of that - probably another $400-$500.

The other is an '01 Yamaha 100 hp selling for $3950. After changing out the controls, cables etc., it would be $6089.

harness is about 170 bucks or so from brp.remote is approx. 450.that was on the Canadian site so American site might be less.yes you will need new rigging as your motor is to old for the adapters as far as I know.with the prices you quoted and the ages of the motors if all things were equal and both were mint low hours id go for the etec every time.
