I have a 99 sea ray 180, and the gauge seems to be stuck on F. I took the wires off the sender, cleaned up the metal, and checked connections, and nothing. I can make the gauge move by removing the wire, so i think the sender is stuck.

I asked the local dealer, and they want $81 and its on backorder. I see them on this site and others as universal senders for around $25, but i dont know which to get. My tank is 9.5in deep and rectangle with no steps or anything. My sender has 2 wires. a center stud, and a ground wire.

Im assuming this one would work

6"-12" Electric Sending Unit Tank Depth - Moeller 035722-10 - iboats

i also see some that are something like 6-24in. does it mater the range? as long as im in the range im good right?

You need to match the sending unit to the gauge. The ohms range of the sender must match the ohms range of the gauge for it to give you an accurate reading. Ask your dealer what your fuel gauge is rated for. It might be a 10-180 ohms or 240-33 ohms etc. Then just order a sender from iBoats for that rating and your all set. Before you do that though you might want to remove the sending unit from the tank (which you will have to do anyway if it's bad and you have to replace it) and just see if the float lever is just stuck in the "up position" which would peg your gauge at full.

Like tazrig said. And yes, length matters- it needs to be adjusted to the depth of the tank.

If you want to reinvent the wheel, you can change over to a 'reed switch' sender. They're more accurate. I had problems with the swing arm hanging up on baffles in the tank and switched over to the reed type. My gauge readings are now accurate to within 1/16 of a tank.

ill call the dealer and see if i can get that info. I have part numbers for both, but they dont get me far on google. The boat is in storage so i cant just run out there and look unfortunately. Im trying to get all the parts together so i can bring it home one weekend and fix all of it.

thanks for the info.
