I'm getting ready to winterize the boat. I know I need to put a fuel stabilizer in the tank for the winter.
I don't ever put ethanol gas in my boat. It looks like most of the marine fuel stabilizers talk about how great they are for treating ethanol fuel in the boat. If I remember correctly regular Stabil is red and the marine version is blue. Is there really any difference? Do I just need the red one since ethanol never goes in the tank? Is there a better product to use instead of Stabil? The boat will be inactive for about 6 months. The tank holds 40 gallons but there's only about 25 in there. I've never been one to fill the tank over the winter. That just seems like more gas to go bad and no room to add fresh gas in the spring.

Go red stabil and you will be fine. That is all I have used and never looked back.

There are a bunch of choices on the market. Seafoam is another choice.

I use to use seafoam, Volvo penta recommends stabil so that's what I use now.

they just need to "advertise" its for ethynol so people who "think" you need something special for each type of gas but stabilizer is stabilizer and wether its ethynol or not doesn't matter.

I can't imagine there's much of a difference in the Marine Sta-bil vs the regular red Auto version. I have used the red for over 20 years in the boats, jet skis, and lawn equipment. Never had an issue. The "ethanol" comment is just because it helps fight off water-absorption, of which ethanol-laced fuel is more likely to occur.
