I have searched for threads regarding hydraulic steering and cannot identify anyone with the same configuration that went to hydraulic. My boat is a '74 26' sedan with twin inline 6's with OMC 400/800 outdrives. The old cable steering was a cable that actually goes through the stern and connected directly to a shaft linking the two stern drives together. My main cable is completely corroded through, as is the flybridge to main bridge cable. Replacement of the cables requires custom built cables that cost almost as much as hydraulic steering costs to install.
My MAIN question is which steering system to go with. Teleflex seems to have 3 main types of hydraulic steering systems. They are Seastar, Baystar and Capilano. Capilano appears to be the heaviest duty and the components are significantly more expensive than Seastar. Which system should I use?
I realize that any system I use will require custom linkage to link the hydraulic cylinder to the sterndrives...
So which should I go with? Seastar? Baystar? Capilano?
Bewildered and confused in Tacoma,
